March, 2009 SPRING CLEAN-UP DAY / TRASH SERVICE: The annual Spring Clean-up Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 25th and will once again begin at 6:00 a.m. The following rules apply as they have in the past:- Only Village residential customers are eligible. Please do not allow others from out of town to abuse this service.- All smaller debris must be boxed or bundled. - Nothing in lengths longer than six feet will be picked up. - Absolutely NO – tires, concrete/stone/brick items, yard waste-tree limbs, railroad ties, wet paint cans, pesticides, antifreeze, hazardous waste, gas cans or motor oil.- Appliances and other metal items will be picked up Please be sure to have everything out to the curb area by 6:00 a.m. as the entire village will be covered in one day and there will be no call backs. Also, please follow the above rules in order for the Village to maintain this as a service to our residents without any additional charge. Other News from Maharg’s Trash Service: The recycling company has asked that we remind residents that they still utilize the 2-bag system, one for paper products and the other for metal, plastic (#1 & #2 only), and glass items. No plastic bags, Styrofoam egg cartons, paint cans, light bulbs, ceramics or other treated glass. Thank you for your cooperation. BRUSH PICKUP: With the spring weather arriving, we have returned to our regular schedule of doing brush pickup on the 1 st Monday of each month. As in the past, it is not necessary to call the Village office to let us know you have brush to be picked up…we will get to it on our scheduled date and as the weather allows. Please remember the following basic rules regarding brush pick-up: - If you have your trees trimmed or cut down by a paid tree serviceman, it is their responsibility to remove all brush. Our Village service is designed to pick up those branches that fall during storms or the small amount that individuals trim on their own trees. - It is not the Village workers responsibility to rake your piles up. All the smaller debris should be placed in yard waste bags. - Do not use this service to put out your grass clippings, leaves, shrubs, plants, flowers, fruits, acorns, walnuts, etc. These items will not be picked up. Thank you for your cooperation! Note: The Village does not do leaf pickup in the spring…you must use the Yard Waste bags from Maharg’s for any spring yard waste including leaves. PARK NEWS: The 9 th Annual Parks Work Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 25th from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon. This is an opportunity for community groups or individuals to come out and provide some volunteer labor to clean-up our parks for the upcoming summer. Anyone who can assist that day is asked to report to Community Park / Ambassador Pool parking area. A lunch will be served at 12 noon in Shelterhouse 4 at Community Park for all those who helped compliments of the Park Board. On another park note, if your child did not get signed up for summer baseball or softball; please be sure to contact John Rammel (baseball – 419-375-2789) or Marie Osterholt (softball-419-375-2523).MISCELLANEOUS NOTES: We have secured the necessary funding sources in order to begin the sewer separation project as required in our permits with the Ohio EPA. The estimated timetable is for the construction projects to begin later in 2009 and continue into 2010. The first phase of this project will be to complete the separation in the Buck Ditch tile, and on S. Wayne Street and S. Elm Street, in which we will also plan to include street reconstruction at the same time. This will be a rather large project and will be done in stages to allow for continued traffic flow through the village. As most of you realize, it will now be necessary for the Village to require that your storm sewer (downspouts, sump pumps, etc) be separated from your sanitary sewer. A separate tap will be provided but it will be the homeowner’s responsibility to separate the sewer lines on your own property. Keep this in mind when planning any landscaping or seeding projects over the next year. This will affect everyone located along S. Wayne Street, S. Elm Street from Butler Street to Milligan Street, along with anyone that currently is tied into the Buck Ditch tile. Village officials will be around shortly to identify and locate as many sewer taps as possible and will be glad to discuss the project and how it will affect your property. Along with this we also will be holding some public meetings in the upcoming months to provide access to the project engineer to better prepare everyone for what will be required and to allow for any of your questions to be answered. In the meantime feel free to contact Randy to discuss this separation/reconstruction project. Your patience and cooperation will be a huge asset as we move along in completing the sewer separation. This summer we will be completing asphalt repair work on Fremont Street along with installing some additional street lamps in these areas. The work is scheduled to be completed during June or July and should only create a minor inconvenience for the local property owners. We also are wrapping up our Water Plant Study and looking at some various equipment and process improvements to help keep our plant operating as efficiently and effectively as possible. A couple of other notes: The Village instituted a Tree Commission this past year to better handle the planting, removal and general maintenance of all trees located in the public right-of way. Specific rules now apply to all trees located in the curb lawn areas along streets and on any other public property. Also, the Village passed an updated Zoning Code that became effective on March 18, 2009. This code does not bring drastic changes to existing regulations but certainly helps clarify areas that were not previously addressed. Any zoning questions can also be referred to Randy at the Village offices. The Fort Recovery Friends of the Arts have once again put together a great listing of Sunday evening concerts beginning June 7 th. Continue to come and enjoy an evening with friends and neighbors while being entertained by some great shows. Also don’t forget to mark your calendars for this year’s Jubilee scheduled for June 18-21st. All this information is or soon will be on the village website. As always we welcome your input and invite you to our Council meetings on the first and third Mondays of each month, 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall. If you have any specific concerns or questions, feel free to contact Randy, Mayor Broerman or any of the Council Members.
