SPRING CLEAN-UP DAY: The annual Spring Clean-up Day is scheduled for Tuesday, May 11th and will once again begin at 6:30 a.m. The following rules apply as they have in the past: - Only Village residential customers are eligible. Please do not allow others from out of town to abuse this service. - All smaller debris must be boxed or bundled. - Nothing in lengths longer than six feet will be picked up. - Absolutely NO – tires, concrete/stone/brick items, yard waste-tree limbs, railroad ties, wet paint cans, pesticides, antifreeze, hazardous waste, gas cans or motor oil. - Appliances and other metal items will be picked up (refrigerators must have Freon removed and be properly tagged). Please be sure to have everything out to the curb area by 6:30 a.m. as the entire village will be covered in one day and there will be no call backs. Also, please follow the above rules in order for the Village to maintain this as a service to our residents without any additional charge.
GARBAGE SERVICE: The Village entered into a new 3 year contract with Maharg Trash Service to handle the weekly curb side collection of garbage, recycling and yard waste. This new contract went into effect on April 1st and included an increase in the cost of the garbage bags only. The cost will now be $1.20 / bag or a bundle for $6.00 and they will still be available at the Ole Fort IGA, Fort Recovery Party Mart (Shell), and Big Al’s Carry-Out. Cost of the recycling bags remain at $.65 each ($3.25/bundle) and $1.00 per yard waste bag. This increase will allow us to continue providing the annual clean-up day at no additional cost to our residents and will also include the Village receiving a percentage to help defray the costs of the brush and leaf pick-ups that have been started in the past couple years. We know that these services are very beneficial to our residents and hope that you utilize them. Should you have any questions or concerns about the curbside collection from Maharg’s or brush/leaf pick-up from the Village, please feel free to call Randy at 419-375-1056.
BRUSH PICKUP: Village workers have begun following the previous schedule of picking up brush at curb side on the first and third Mondays of each month – weather permitting. As a reminder: · Please remember to break up the small sticks and place them in garbage or yard waste bags whenever possible. · We, as a rule, are not responsible to cut up bigger branches. You must take care of this prior to calling the Village. If too large, the Village will not be able to pick up the brush. · We will resume leaf pickup in the fall, please bag your leaves as you clean-up this spring. · Do not use this service to put out your grass clippings, shrubs, plants, flowers, fruits, acorns, walnuts, etc. These items will not be picked up! This is meant for the larger pieces of limbs and brush only. Whenever possible, all other items should be placed in yard waste bags.
MISC. NOTES FROM CHIEF HARTINGS:
The Fort Recovery Police Department would like to let residents know they will begin reviewing properties for garbage and vehicles that are currently not operable and do not possess valid plates. Beginning mid-April, police officers will stop and notify residents if they are in violation of the village ordinances. Time will be given to the resident to comply regarding the violations. If the individual does not comply within a given time frame, a misdemeanor citation will be issued. We would like to remind citizens that motorized scooters and golf carts must be properly titled and registered under Ohio law to operate on a street or highway. In order for motorized scooters and golf carts to be titled, they must meet federal safety standard guidelines and meet the definition of a motorcycle or motor vehicle. Along with proper title and registering of the vehicle, a valid operators license and/or motorcycle endorsement is required if applicable. Please be advised that motorized scooters are prohibited from being operated on the sidewalk within the Village of Fort Recovery. Prior to taking your spring and summer vacations, please notify the police department to conduct vacation checks on your residence. An officer will stop daily to check on the residence and make sure it is locked, and the premise is secured. Your house check is kept confidential within the police department. Please contact the police department to fill out a vacation house check form prior to your departure. We can be reached at 419-375-2662 or frpd@fortrecovery.org.
